What is Required to Become an NHVAS Approved Auditor?

This article provides information on how to satisfy the criteria to become registered with the NHVR as an NHVAS Approved Auditor. You should treat this as guidance only, as each application will be assessed on its own merits.
Current Requirements
Under the current NHVR framework, applicants must hold an appropriate Lead Auditor qualification.
We can certainly assist you with Step 1 - Get Qualified, and we recommend starting with our Lead Auditor Quality Management Systems (ISO 19011:2018 | ISO 9001:2015) course. This addresses the requirements of both 22.1(a) and 22.1f (from section 22 of the NHVAS Business Rules and Standards).
However, it is important to note that additional general criteria must be satisfied to be registered as an approved auditor (section 22 of the NHVAS Business Rules and Standards).
NHAVS Approved Auditor NHVAS approved auditors are registered by the NHVR and a register of NHVAS auditors is maintained and published by the NHVR at www.nhvr.gov.au/nhvas-auditors.
Important: Proposed Changes to Auditor Qualification Requirements
The NHVR has flagged upcoming legislative changes that will introduce new qualification requirements for NHVAS Auditors.
Once the legislation is passed, Auditors will be required to hold the Nationally Recognised BSBAUD units of competency (or formally recognised equivalents) issued by an Australian Registered Training Organisation (RTO), with the Nationally Recognised Training (NRT) logo displayed.
International qualifications alone (for example, ISO Lead Auditor or Exemplar Global certification) will not be sufficient under the proposed framework, although they may support Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) pathways through an RTO.
These changes are not yet in effect. They will apply once the legislation is finalised. Auditors will have a 12 month transition period from commencement to meet the new requirements.
