What is RPL?

Recognition of Prior Learning

Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is defined in the AQF as follows:

Recognition of prior learning is an assessment process that involves assessment of an individual's relevant prior learning - including formal, informal and non-formal (workplace) learning - to determine the credit outcomes of an individual application for credit. https://www.aqf.edu.au/sites/aqf/files/rpl-explanation.pdf

Students applying for RPL will be required to submit a range of documents and additional evidence of their knowledge and competence regarding the relevant subject matter.

It is a requirement of Clause 3.5 Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) 2015 that Auditor Training Online authenticates the information by directly accessing the USI transcript online or by contacting the organisation or third party that issued the document to confirm the content is valid.

Auditor Training Online is not obliged to issue a qualification or statement of attainment that is achieved wholly through recognition of units and/ or modules completed at another RTO or RTOs.

It is important to note that the requirements of RPL differ from Credit Transfers. RPL is an assessment-only pathway of determining the competence of a person, while providing credit-transfer is recognising the equivalence in content and learning outcomes between different types of learning and/or qualifications previously undertaken and completed successfully.

NOTE: Due to differences in performance criteria and assessment requirements, Exemplar Global competencies/qualifications cannot be used as RPL towards Nationally Recognised competencies and vice-versa.
